The decade-long television series based on author J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series ‘Harry Potter’ has been ordered at HBO Max.
According to the details, the ‘decade-long series’ announced last week will have each season based upon one of the books of Rowling’s wizarding series, with an entirely new cast than the films.

Although there is no official announcement regarding this, the supposed idea here seems like splitting the later [and lengthier] parts of the book series into two, to stretch the number of seasons to 10 out of the seven books.
Some more math done here establishes the fact that the eight-part film series, roughly 2.5 hours each, makes up the total watch time of around 20 hours.
However, for the series to go on for 10 years – and roughly 10 seasons – it would be much more to that watch time. Given the regular HBO format, if each season has eight hour-long episodes, it makes up to 80 hours in a decade, roughly four times to the total of movies combined.

With all these additional hours of story, it remains to be seen what parts of the books we will get to see in the series, other than the films.
The series will be produced by Max in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, while, Rowling will executive produce the project along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
