ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Sami Ibrahim has been arrested in Islamabad on Wednesday, ARY News reported, citing sources.
Sources told ARY News that the Islamabad police detained Sami Ibrahim from Seventh Avenue in the federal capital.
However, the capital police have not issued any statement in this regard yet.
It is pertinent to mention here that senior journalist Imran Riaz Khan was also arrested earlier on May 11 in the wake of the protests that erupted following the arrest of the PTI chairman.
In the last hearing, the Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the ministries of interior and defence to “discharge their constitutional duties to effect the recovery” of anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan.
During the hearing, Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar revealed that there was no trace of the journalist at any police department across the country.
Imran Riaz Khan ‘abduction’
The first information report (FIR) of Senior journalist and anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan had been registered on his father’s complaint.
As per details, the DPO Sialkot said that the abduction FIR of the senior journalist was registered at the Civil Line police station.
He said that abduction sections are included against unknown persons and a committee comprised of IT specialists and police officers has been constituted for the release of the journalist.
