The United States (US) has called for respecting democratic principles in response to a question regarding political chaos in Pakistan.

“I will say, as we’ve said before, we continue to monitor the situation in Pakistan very closely. We don’t have a position on one political candidate or another inside Pakistan.

“We call for the respect and equal application of democratic principles, freedom of expression around – and rule of law around the world, and of course in Pakistan we urge that these principles be respected for all people,” US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller said during a regular briefing.

When asked whether the US would call for respecting human rights during the current situation, Miller said: “Of course we do. As I just said, we always call for the respect of democratic principles, freedom of expression, and rule of law around the world – in Pakistan, in every other country around the world.

US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller also says that the US is monitoring the situation in Pakistan. Attacks on oil and gas installations in Pakistan are regrettable.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those killed, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. We are closely monitoring developments,” the spokesman said.
