Abductors themselves freed Shahbaz Taseer: report

Earlier, reports suggested that Shahbaz Taseer, after being freed from captivity, had dined at al Saleem Hotel in Kuchlak and paid Rs 350. He telephoned his family from there and informed about his release.

The report submitted to the Interior Ministry also stated that Taseer was not recovered in any security operation; the abductors themselves freed him.

“The abductors freed him out of their own will, security agencies only received him from al Saleem Hotel,” it read.

Sources, however, said that Shahbaz Taseer was held as captive by Uzbek militants in Afghanistan and in a skirmish with them, the Taliban took hold of Taseer.

Allegedly, a commander of the Haqqani Network dropped Taseer to a Quetta suburb on his motorcycle and left him giving away Rs 15000, sources added.

Provincial government of Balochistan and the Inspector General (IG) while taking credit of Taseer’s recovery had declared it an outcome of a security operation.

The reported submitted to the Ministry of Interior also recommended an action against the ones who tried to claim credit of Taseer’s release.
