12-year-old boy killed in crossfire between police, alleged criminal in Karachi

KARACHI: A 12-year-old boy was killed when he sustained a bullet wound on his head in an exchange of fire between police personnel and a suspected criminal in Karachi’s Quaidabad area late on Friday, ARY News reported.

According to police, a suspect Sher Zaman opened fire on two police officials in Sherpao Colony. In the ensuing exchange of fire, both the policemen as well as the suspect received injuries.

Two boys were also caught in the crossfire. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where one of the injured, named Sajjad, succumbed to his wounds while the other boy was said to be out of danger.

The suspect, who sustained a bullet wound on his leg, was taken into custody.

After medical examination, the boy’s body was handed over to his heirs. The body was brought back to Quaidabad where his funeral prayer was offered after which he laid to rest.

It is pertinent to mention here that a 20-year-old final-year medical student, Nimra, was killed after she received a bullet in her head in an exchange of fire between police and robbers on a crowded road near Anda Morr in North Karachi within the limits of the Sir Syed police station on Feb 24.

Before that, Amal Umer, who was travelling along with her parents in their car, had died when she was hit by a bullet fired by a policeman in Karachi’s DHA last year in August during an alleged shoot-out between police and robbers.
