The plea was filed by a citizen Abdul Jalil through his counsel Taufeeq Asif. The case hearing was conducted by Justice Athar Minallah.
The petitioner argued that Islamic law should be imposed in Pakistan under the Shariat Act.
After hearing arguments in the case, the court issued notices to secretary law, Punjab Assembly, KPK Assembly, Sindh Assembly, Balochistan Assembly and speaker National Assembly.
The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
In December last year, former khateeb of the Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz had also urged the Supreme Court for complete enforcement of Sharia in the country.

The cleric had submitted a petition asking the government to furnish reports listing the steps taken in this regard.
“Otherwise, Allah Almighty will initiate a suo motu,” Maulana Aziz had cautioned the court when he appeared before it during the hearing of petitions moved against the alleged extra-judicial killings of people in the wake of the Lal Masjid operation in 2007.
