KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has given directives to a local government department to start work on worth Rs8 billion 14 schemes of Karachi Mega Schemes phase-II on December 15.
CM issued these directives while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of Karachi Package phase-I and fix a deadline for start of phase –II.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Secretary Local Government Ramzan Awan, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Khan, Project Director Karachi Package Niaz Soomro, Engineer Karachi Package Khalid and other concerned officers.

The schemes on which work is to start within next one week are Rs350 million scheme of road from Tank Chowrangi to Super Highway via Thadho Nalo, Rs280 million Reconstruction of Tipu Sultan road from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Karsaz, Rs1500 million construction of bridge at Tipu Sultan and Khalid Bin Waleed intersection at Shaheed-e-Millat Road, widening of RS270 million stadium road from University Road to Rashid Minhas, remodeling of of Rs1500 million 2000 Road Landhi, improvement of Rs240 million road at Cantt Station, construction of Rs 650 million road from Fuwara Chowk to garden via Abdullah Haroon road and back Fawara Chowk via Zaibunisa Road, construction of Rs200 million bridge over Korangi Nala near Habib Bank, construction of Rs700 million Bridge at intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard, construction of Rs700 million storm water drain (SWD) from Hassan square to Lyari River, construction of Rs200 million SWD from Star Gate to Chakora Nala, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Rs400 million improvement of water supply to Baldia Town.
The chief minister discussed each and every scheme with the participants of the meeting and finalized them to start work on December 15, 2017. “I would perform launching ceremony and now I would not extend the date,” he told the minister local government.
The chief minister also gave a deadline to the PD of the project to open submarine underpass one way on December 15, 2017, and on the same day, work must be started on the flyover at Sunset Boulevard. “I want you to finalise alternate route parallel to Sunset Boulevard for the convenience of the people of the area,” he said.
The Interchange Bridge at ICI Intersection approved by the chief minister at Rs1000 million has been hoisted on SPPRA website for the technical evaluation report. Similarly, construction of Flyover at Lee Market, Lyari with an estimated cost of Rs644 million have been hoisted on SPPRA website for the technical evaluation report.

The chief minister was also briefed about the progress of Karachi package-I, the local government minister Jam Khan Shoro said that work on University road has been completed up to 95 percent, while work on the University road from NED to Safoora has been done up to 82 percent.
He added that the work on rehabilitation of Mosmyat Road has been completed 100 percent. The progress of other schemes is rehabilitation of road from Surjani to Madinatul Hikmat 96 percent, construction of U-turn at Natha Khan bridge 5 percent, widening of Shahra-e-Faisal both side from Metropole to star Gate 83 percent, remodeling of Baloch colony 100 percent, construction drigh Road underpass along with Shahrah-i-Faisal 81 percent, construction Manzil Pump 100 percent, reconstruction of Karachi Zoo 42 percent and various other works are almost at completion stage.
