CM Punjab celebrates Diwali with Hindu community

LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi celebrated Diwali with the Hindu community in a ceremony held in the Chief Minister’s office in Punjab, ARY News reported. 

The CM participated in the cake-cutting ceremony on the occasion of Diwali. Members of the minority community presented a gift of Ajrak to the CM Punjab.

On the special occasion, Elahi said they are providing scholarships to students of minorities, with a 2% minority quota in all higher education institutes.

While the Punjab government is working to increase the minorities’ employment quota to 5%. The Punjab government is providing an Rs50,000 scholarship to students from minorities with over 50% marks, he added.

Elahi said that participating in each other’s special occasions furthers harmony in society. Minority rights protection is the state’s responsibility, he added.
