CM Sindh says action will be taken if dance, music banned in schools

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Sunday said that strict action will be taken against those who will issue notification against dancing lessons and music in schools across the province.

He added that Sindh has a progressive mindset and the provincial government believes in preserving and promoting culture and heritage as enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan.

“It will not be dictated by isolated extremist elements and will not allow its progressive agenda to be hijacked at any cost,” he said. He said that dance and music are integral part of society and they will continue to support to such activities.

Earlier this month Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) member in Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman had reportedly objected to the inclusion of dance classes in some private schools of Karachi. He had written to the provincial education minister to take ‘appropriate action’ saying it was against Islamic principals.

The chief minster took notice of the complaints regarding unclean streets in the metropolis, announced that surprise visits will be paid to different parts of the city, and municipal officers will be sacked they are not performing their duty.
