Cold snap continues across Pakistan including Karachi, Balochistan

KARACHI: This year, ice, freezing rain and winter weather warnings and advisories were in effect for a major swath of Pakistan stretching from northerner parts of the country and into the port city.

Temperatures were going down on Monday in varying cities of Punjab, Pakistan’s most populated province, after a spell of winter downpour.

From the picturesque Murree to the mountains of Swat valley, snow fell heavily throughout the weekend and attracted a huge number of tourists and visitors.

In the neighbouring Balochistan, a heavy snowstorm paralysed life in Quetta and Chaman, with flights cancelled and the Quetta-Chaman Highway closed for traffic.

Temperatures sank to minus six degrees from Kalat to Chaman in the province.

Gas demand remained high in Punjab and Balochistan, since the supply-demand gap could not match the high usage of the commodity during cold weather conditions.

Ice continued to accumulate in Abbottabad, Gilgit, Thandiani and Shogran as the temperatures dropped constantly.

Karachiites witnessed an extreme chill weather shift after a recent rain spell that lasted for two days beginning from Friday last week.

Intermittent rainfall continued in the metropolis even on Saturday, as the mercury goes down in the city. However, rain-linked-incidents killed at least five people on the second day of rain.

Meanwhile, Jacobabad and Larkana battled think blanket of fog amid chilled weather.
