ISLAMABAD: Calling upon state institutions to work under the limits defined in the Constitution of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said that confrontation among institutions is against the interests of country.
Responding to a point of order in the National Assembly, the PM said that confrontation among institutions will not serve the country.
He lamented that “according to some news reports”, elected representatives were dubbed as thieves, dacoits and mafia in courts.
“I pray that these reports may be wrong but the fact is that today, those in power are summoned in courts and insulted that is why they are reluctant to take any initiative,” said Abbasi.
He said that the parliament should debate whether it has the right to legislate and whether the government has powers to take decisions.
Speaking on the occasion, Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah said that Parliament has the right to legislate and we have always talked of supremacy of the Parliament.
He said everyone should accept parliaments’ decisions and legislation done by parliamentarians can be interpreted not rejected.
