Congo virus patient dies in Quetta, cases reported in Karachi

Rehmatullah, a resident of Sarki Road, was admitted at a local hospital four days ago and died of the deadly disease on Friday, hospital sources said.

In Karachi, two new cases of the deadly disease have been reported. Shahid Khan, a 16-year boy of SITE Town, has been admitted at Jinnah Hospital.

Another patient of the disease who hailed from Bahawalpur was admitted at a private hospital in Gulshan Iqbal. At least six people have died of Congo virus infection in Karachi this year.

Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is spread by the bite of ticks.They are fed on an infected animal or from exposure to blood or tissues during or immediately after slaughter of an infected animal.

The symptoms of the disease include sudden high fever with muscle aches, backache and headache. Symptoms usually felt in a patient in one to three days after exposure to ticks but in rare cases after nine days.
