ECL case: SC directs Ayyan to contact high court

Hearing was held today for the contempt of court petition filed by the model with the SC against re-insertion of her name in the Exit Control List (ECL), despite court’s earlier order for removal of her name from the ECL.

Secretary interior, director general Federal Investigation Agency and immigration officials had been made respondents in the petition.

Ayyan had, in her petition, said that placing her name back into the ECL was in violation of the court orders.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had requested that Ayyan’s name be inserted into the ECL again after it had been excluded. FIA and FBR authorities contacted the Interior Ministry after Ayyan’s name had been deleted from the ECL.

Subsequently, the Interior Ministry put Ayyan’s name back in the ECL.

Ayyan had claimed that she wanted to look after her ailing mother in Dubai and also had to take part in some pending shoots. The supermodel, who is also a brand ambassador for various national and international brands, was arrested from Islamabad airport last year in March for carrying more than USD 500,000.

She had been sent to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on charges of money laundering and currency smuggling. After spending four months in prison, Ayyan was released on bail.
