86-point Code of Conduct for general elections issued by ECP

ISLAMABAD: An 86-point code of conduct for upcoming general elections 2018 has been issued by The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday.

The code of conduct, divided into two parts, is about political parties, contesting candidates and polling stations.

According to the rules, the political parties, candidates and election agents shall accept everything as per mentioned accordingly, including directions, instructions and regulations issued by the Election Commission.

The acceptance of mentioned code of conducts will lead to smooth conduct of elections, the focus is done on the preservation of public order and ethics and it is highly advised to refrain from slandering the Election Commission in any form whatsoever, violation whereof would entail contempt as contemplated in Section 10 of the Elections Act 2017, it adds.

It further adds that political parties shall make an effort to bestow equal opportunities to both male and female eligible members to join the electoral race.

Furthermore, it stated that whilst the assortment process of candidates for general seats in an Assembly, the party is required to make certain at least a five percent female demonstration in their list of candidates beneath Section 206 of the Election Act 2017.

The political parties, contesting candidates, election agents and their supporters shall not indulge in offering gifts or gratifications or incentives to any person to contest or not to contest as a candidate, or to withdraw or retire or not to withdraw or not to retire from the election. Such violation will be treated as corrupt practice.
