RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Court (NAB) on Sunday warned legal action would be taken against those who tried to obstruct arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader captain (retd) Safdar in Rawalpindi, ARY News reported.
“The NAB did not delay arrest of Safdar and he should not be portrayed as a hero. The accused, who possesses assets beyond his source of income, is trying to look virtuous. Action will be taken against those who gave any kind of shelter to him,” said the accountability institution in a statement following arrest of the son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
It should be mentioned that Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to ten years in prison in the Avenfield reference case, while Maryam Safdar was sentenced to seven years and Safdar was given one year imprisonment.
Safdar was reportedly staying with a PML-N leader, Shakeel Awan.
The NAB said the accused surrendered as a result of the raids carried out by four investigation teams of the state institution in Haripur, Abbotabad and Mansehra. However, he should have surrendered on the first day of the NAB court verdict, it added.
The accused is in NAB’s custody in Rawalpindi and elite forces and Rangers personnel have been deployed in and around the premises of the NAB’s office along officers of district administration.
All the ways leading to the NAB office have been sealed and traffic from Melody to Lal Masjid has been diverted to G-6-1-2.
