KARACHI: A 19-month-old boy, Ahsan, sustained a bullet in his chest reportedly fired from a police weapon resulting in his death here on Tuesday, ARY News reported.
According to his father Kashif, he was traveling in a rickshaw along with his child when he saw police personnel firing on the University Road. At the same moment, Kashif said, he saw blood on the clothes of his son and he rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced his child dead.
He alleged that his son died of the bullet fired by the policemen. Kashif said that when he reached at the hospital to get his son treated, policemen from Sachal Police Station arrived there too.
Later, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the child’s murder and sought report from the additional IG Sindh.
Condoling with the bereaved family, the chief minister said that those found involved in the incident would be brought to justice.
Four police personnel arrested
Sindh Inspector-General of Police Dr Kaleem Imam also took notice of the issue and sought ‘comprehensive report’ from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Karachi.
Meanwhile, acting SSP Malir Azam Jamali said that four police personnel, who were reportedly involved in the incident, had been taken into custody.
The police officer said that all the four police personnel had small weapons and added that they launched investigations into the incident.
He said that action would be taken against the policemen in accordance with the law, if they found guilty.

Earlier, a 12-year-old boy had been killed when he sustained a bullet wound on his head in an exchange of fire between police personnel and a suspected criminal in Karachi’s Quaidabad area on April 6.
According to police, a suspect Sher Zaman had opened fire on two police officials in Sherpao Colony. In the ensuing exchange of fire, both the policemen as well as the suspect had received injuries.
