KARACHI: Threatening to boycott the upcoming general elections, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Friday said they were not being given a level playing field for electioneering, ARY News reported.
“The political party that has been holding 85 percent mandate for the last 35 years in Karachi should have been given priority,” he said while talking to media in Karachi complaining that the caretaker government was not allowing holding a rally in Mirpur Khas and different areas of the megapolis including at Liaquatabad flyover and Bagh-e-Jinnah.
He said the local administration of Mirpur Khas was not allowing the MQM-P to hold a rally, while “the caretaker government’s favored party” was allowed a rally in the same city. He also said the MQM-P applied for a rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah and the permission was not granted so far by the local administration.
Khalid Siddiqui asked the government if they were allowed to participate in elections or not.
“If we are not allowed for the elections, then we should devise our strategy,” he threatened.
The MQM-P leader said their party workers were being arrested on a daily basis and party offices were being pull down.
“Can’t you wait for July 25? No other party’s workers are being arrested,” he said.
