ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has taken notice of ‘improper’ activities of Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Britain during an award ceremony in London.
Qureshi has sought a written explanation from ambassador Sahebzada Ahmed Khan for his reported ‘irresponsible’ behaviour during the awards ceremony. The Foreign Ministry has also summoned the envoy to Headquarters on account of giving an explanation over his non-serious behaviour in the public event.
The Foreign Office (FO) has issued a press release, notifying “with regard to the recent incident involving our High Commissioner in London, we received the news through electronic and social media. The matter was discussed with the Foreign Minister who asked for a written explanation from the High Commissioner.”
FO added “the Foreign Minister has called him to Headquarters for explanation as well.”
The video clip from the ceremony made rounds on the electronic as well as social media, raising various questions and concerns on the actions of the senior Pakistani diplomat.
The incident took place on September 9 during a local media outlet’s awards event held at London’s O2 Arena, wherein the Pakistani ambassador was called on stage to announce the winner of an award category in front of hundreds of spectators.
