GILGIT: While inaugurating various development projects in Gilgit Baltistan on Sunday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the people of Gilgit Baltistan have now acquired the same basic rights as other citizens of Pakistan.
He said that Gilgit-Baltistan has been granted permission to have its own civil services and it will also be given a quota in the Civil services of Pakistan.
“In the light of GB Order 2018, all authority will be in the hands of the chief secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan including the right of spending central funds. The role of the federal government will be only limited to giving proposals,” PM announced.
Referring to the 18th amendment, Abbasi said Gilgit-Baltistan is now entitled to enjoy the rights similar to other provinces. Governors, judges of high courts and chief justice of the province can also be picked from Gilgit-Baltistan, he assured.
Earlier, the prime minister, in his address to Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly and Gilgit Baltistan Council, said: “We are so proud of our efforts that today a milestone has been achieved by Gligit-Baltistan; now this region will progress and its people will get their due rights.”
“The region is base of CPEC and people of GB will get more benefits from it,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that yesterday; hundreds of demonstrators in Gilgit-Baltistan staged a rally against the GB Order 2018, demanding an end to governance in Gilgit-Baltistan via presidential orders and acceptance of the region as a part of Pakistan like Fata.
