Norwegian ambassador Leif H. Larsen, Philippines ambassador Domingo D. Lucenario Jr, wives of Indonesian and Malaysian ambassadors Heri Listyawati Burhan Muhammad and Datin Habibah Mahmud were killed when a Mi-17 helicopter of Pakistan Army crashed in Gilgit’s Naltar area.
According to a statement released by Foreign Office, PM Nawaz Sharif informed his Malaysian counterpart that the incident took place during a trip to Naltar Valley organized by Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif also said that he was on his way to Naltar for lunch with the ambassadors when he heard the news.
Nawaz Sharif, paying a tribute to Datin Habibah Mahmud, said that she was a fine human being and a strong promoter of friendly ties between Pakistan and Malaysia.
The Pakistani premier has also said that her remains will be sent to Malaysia as soon as possible. He added that federal ministers will accompany the body as a mark of respect.
He also said that a national day of mourning is being observed over the incident.
