Govt decides to increase defence budget by over Rs100bn: sources

Sources said Ministry of Finance and General Headquarters have finalized the details in this regard. Last year, the government had allocated Rs788 billion for defence, which was around 11.1% increase in comparison to previous year’s defence allocation, while around Rs900 billion are likely to be allocated for defence in the next budget.

The budget for Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force would be increased by 10 to 15 percent compared to last year.

It is pertinent here to mention that the budget does not include the expenses on War on Terror and the government would itself bear all the outlays of it, said the sources.

The budget is being augmented viewing the need of money for defence ammunition which would be imported in next financial year and its payment would be made in dollars, they said.
