IHC order halts Musharraf's treason trial

The decision was announced by IHC Justice Athar Minallah in response to petitions filed by former premier Shaukat Aziz, former Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and former law minister Zahid Hamid.

The judgement directed the special court that “in the circumstances, it would be futile to proceed against Pervez Musharraf alone, therefore, in order to meet the ends of justice, the special court may suspend its proceedings until the final adjudication of the present petitions.”

The IHC decision also restrained the federal government from taking any adverse action against the petitioners.

Pakistan’s former army chief and President Pervez Musharraf is facing high treason charges for suspending the constitution and imposing emergency rule in 2007.
