ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s nomination papers for a National Assembly seat (NA-53) in Islamabad have also been challenged.
His nomination papers for two NA seats each in Lahore and Karachi have already been challenged.
Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party’s (PJDP) Abdul Wahab Baloch filed objections with the Returning Officer concerned, pointing out the issue of Sitawhite case.
He argued that the PTI chief is not eligible to contest the elections as he didn’t meet the criterion laid down under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
Khan has submitted nominations from National Assembly constituencies in Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Mianwali.
Earlier, former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhary, who also heads the PJDP has challenged Khan’s papers on the basis of Sita White case.
In an interview couple of days ago, Chaudhary, who is now the president of the Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party, claimed that he has evidence to show that Khan has admitted to being the father of Tyrian White while abroad, but denies the same in Pakistan.
The former CJP subsequently filed a case with the RO against Khan’s eligibility to hold public office under Article 62 (1)(f).
Reports say that the scrutiny of Imran’s nomination papers was then postponed until June 19, which is the last date for the verification.
The June 19 will be the last date for filing appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers.
The last date for appellate tribunals of the ECP for deciding appeals against decisions of returning officers will be June 26.
According to the schedule, the list of validly nominated candidates will be published on June 27, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be June 28.
The ECP will allocate election symbols to candidates on June 29 and the final list of the contesting candidates will be displayed the same day.
