KOHAT: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday his government in Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) empowered the police department while disallowing all kind of political interventions.

Talking to press after an event here, the PTI chief said his government in the province did not allow any political interference in the police department.

He said the provincial government recruited police personnel on the basis of merit.

Coming over Nawaz Sharif’s recent public speech in Abbottabad asking publicly about new KP, the PTI chief said he wanted Nawaz to look at the KP police to conceive new KP. “Nawaz Sharif should have known about new KP after addressing a public speech without the bulletproof glasses,” he added while referring to enhanced law and order situation.

Applauding the police efforts for timely action, Imran Khan said the opposition parties made a hue and cry over Dera Ismail Khan case for political scoring.

“As the case surfaced, I immediately called the Inspector General on the matter,” Khan underlined.

Moreover, he said the KP police do not take dictations unlike the police departments in other parts of the country.

Taking a swipe at PML-N legislators, he said they voted in favour of a person who has been disqualified by the apex court and involved in looting the national exchequer.

The PTI chief was referring to National Assembly session that voted against Nawaz-specific amendment to election law, seeking to restore the bar on a disqualified person from holding party office.
