JIT launches investigations against Azam Swati

PESHAWAR: In compliance with the apex court order, a joint investigation team (JIT) has launched investigations against Minister for Science and Technology Azam Swati over alleged abuse of powers.

The JIT on Wednesday visited Azam Swati’s residence to gather evidences and sought details from Capital Development Authority (CDA) about the residence of  Azam Swati.

The JIT, headed by DG NAB Rawalpindi Irfan Mangi will have to present its report before the apex court withing 14 days.

It is  pertinent to mention here that the SC had formed the JIT, comprising the officials of FIA, NAB and IB to probe the issue on November 2.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, had expressed extreme displeasure over the removal of the IG Islamabad, saying the way he was sent packing is deplorable.

Attorney General Anwar Mansoor informed that the IGP was removed on the verbal directives of the prime minister.

He remarked the capital’s top cop was removed for political reasons and vowed that he would not let anybody put any political pressure and weaken state institutions this way.

On the issue of transfer of the inspector general of Islamabad, Azam Khan Swati, On October 30, had said he had done nothing illegitimate as behavior of the IG was irresponsible.

Talking to ARY News program ‘Off The Record’, he had said there was a scuffle between the people encroaching a land and his watchman and following that they threatened that they would bomb Prime Minister Imran Khan.
