According to details, the Punjab Food Authority received reports that substandard and unhealthy meat would be brought into Lahore and supplied in various parts of the city. The meat supplied would be of sick and emaciated animals, it was learned.

In order to foil this attempt and apprehend those responsible for supplying the unhealthy meat, a check-post was established near Lahore’s entry way EME Society. A mini truck and a car were stopped and searched, from which around 1200 KG substandard meat was seized. The drivers of the two vehicles namely Tariq and Akbar were taken into custody as the meat was confiscated by the PFA. The meat had been stuffed in the trunk of the car and the rear end of the mini truck.

Samples of the meat were sent to laboratory for tests. According to the Punjab Foot Authority sources, action would also be taken against those who had supplied the meat and to where the meat was meant to be supplied at.

Director of PFA Ayesha Mumtaz has been especially active in raiding high-profile restaurants and cafes in Lahore and other cities of Punjab. She has also in the recent past sealed restaurants and cafes which have failed to comply with the health standards set by the provincial government.
