The arrested suspects were identified as Naimatullah, Shamsuddin and Arifullah. Extortion slips and cash were also recovered from their possession.
Shamsuddin is said to be a close ally of Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz. He is said to be involved in the attacks on security forces in Islamabad.
Police has said that the money extorted in Karachi, was used to be sent to Afghanistan. The officials said that Rs. 3.5 million were recently transferred to the neighboring country.
