Maryam Nawaz Sharif lashes out at judges in lawyers’ convention

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday came down hard on judiciary and held them responsible for the current political and economic crises in Pakistan, ARY News reported.

Addressing a lawyers’ convention in Rawalpindi, Maryam Nawaz alleged that the judiciary only had the power to suppress a democratically elected prime minister but never took action against dictators.

“Dictators ruled for over 40 years in Pakistan’s 76-year history, but judiciary never showed courage to bring them in courts only politicians were disqualified and no-elected prime minister completed his or her full term,” she said.

She, however, praised Justice Waqar Seth, stating that his bravery in convicting a military dictator will be remembered throughout Pakistan’s history.

She alleged that she and her family had been falsely implicated in

cases and disqualified by a “cabal of five”. “Why the judge got emotional during the hearing, but not when her father was disqualified as prime minister over an expired iqama,” She questioned.

“PTI Chairman Imran Khan was not ousted from power as a result of any intrigue but, in fact, Nawaz Sharif was ousted through an intrigue by a gang of five comprising a general and four judges,” the PML-N senior vice president alleged.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif went on to say that if the judiciary wants to engage in politics, then it should leave its duties to the elected representatives in the parliament.

Speaking regarding general elections in Punjab and the rest of the country, Maryam Nawaz said that PML-N was ready for polls but “it must be held on time”.
