MQM-PSP merger will have no effect on PPP: CM Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday appeared unfazed over the alliance between the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM-P) and the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

The chief minister while addressing media said the formation of new political parties and alliances in the province would make no difference for Pakistan Peoples Party as it is a deep-rooted secular political force of the country.

CM Sindh inaugurated the Trade Exhibition 2017 ‘Emerging Pakistan’ at the Expo Centre along with Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, Leader of opposition in the National assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and Federal Commerce Minister Muhammad Pervaiz Malik.

Replying to a question about the merger of MQM and PSP, CM Sindh said that he could not decipher what Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal wanted to say as they merged their parties together without any name of the party. “I don’t know with which name they may addressed,” he quipped.

He said that the merger of

political factions, parties and alliances will not affect the PPP. “PPP has deep roots among the masses and it is a leading secular and federal party which knows how to steer the country out of fanaticism,” he said.

The chief minister that the predictions of provincial minister Manzoor Wassan have come true. Wassan had said the MQM will seize to exist and merge with PSP while it leadership will be run by a prominent personality from Dubai.

He said the PPP believes in democracy and everyone has right to form alliances, new political parties and work openly. “We are not against anybody or party, but we oppose those who are against democracy and the federation,” he said.

He spurned a question about return of former President General (retd) Musharraf and taking over both the parties, MQM and PSP, saying that he is absconding and running from pillar to post abroad. “Let us see when he comes,” he said.
