MQM decided that instead of a strike and agitation, they would mark a peaceful day of mourning. This was made in the interest of the general public and to not cause any inconvenience.
The MQM is a responsible party and is much aware of the problems and challenges faced by the people of the city, said the MQM coordination committee in a statement.
All business and commercial hubs, and educational institutes will remain open across the city, it added. Transport will also be plying the streets as per normal routine.
They would hoists black flags at buildings, apartments, markets, shopping centers, streets and shops across the megapolis and the country.
The party said it will express solidarity and offer funeral prayers in absentia of Aftab Ahmed. The zonal and regional offices of the MQM will hold gatherings and Quranic recitations for the departed soul.
It would be an unprecedented show of unity and solidarity among all the workers and activists of the party.
The MQM also appealed the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for release all those held in the custody of LEAs, and to arrest those responsible for the death of Aftab Ahmed.
