Punjab minister orders arrest of school principal after video of corporal punishment goes viral

LAHORE: Punjab Schools Education Minister Murad Raas on Thursday directed for immediate arrest of a school principal after a video of a fourth-grade student being subjected to corporal punishment went viral on social media, ARY News reported.

According to a statement released from his office, Murad Raas ordered arrest of a private school’s principal namely Shafiq Awan who badly tortured a fourth grade student Muhammad Usman after seeing a viral video of the torture. The minister directed Deputy Commissioner Chakwal for the immediate arrest of the school principal.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused on the direction of the minister and raids are being conducted for the arrest of the suspect.

The minister directed to provide best treatment facilities to the students and directed EDO education to ensure strict implementation on the ban of corporal punishment.

He condemned the incident and said that those who involved in torturing the minor students are not human beings.

The minister also expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of school children due to blast of cylinder in their van in Muzaffargarh.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and  said that gas cylinders should be removed from school vans.

Earlier, he contacted ADCG Muzaffargarh Asif Rehman directed him to register FIR against those responsible for the incident.
