National grid to have significant electricity by March 2018, says PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed the confidence that reliance on costly fuel for power generation will be reduced a great deal by the end of tenure of present Government.

He was chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The meeting reviewed all ongoing power projects that will add significant electricity to the national grid up to March 2018.

The Prime Minister said Government’s holistic reforms in the energy sector and efforts for generating additional power through diversifying the energy mix will help in meeting the future energy requirements of the country.

He claimed that the present government have unprecedented edge to execute power generation projects having capacity more than the power generation initiatives taken during the last twenty years.

The Prime Minister said that the focus of the government right from the first day was to resolve energy crisis in the country and adding sufficient energy to the national grid.

He said the Government is determined to provide cheaper electricity to people.  He expressed pleasure that the Government was on track in its endeavors’ and load-shedding will become a reference of history.
