She was born in Indian city of Hyderabad on September 1st, 1930. She arrived in Pakistan after the partition of the sub-continent.

Bajia did not acquire any formal education and did her studies at home.
She was hired by Agha Nasir in 1960 when she arrived at PTV Islamabad after her flight to Karachi was delayed. She went on to write several masterpieces which included Shama, Aroosa, Afshaan, Tareekh-o-Tamseel, Aagahi and Zeenat. Her dramas are still watched today by the masses.
Apart from her literary works, she also served as the adviser to Sindh chief minister once.
Her siblings included Anwar Maqsood, Zubaida Tariq and Zehra Nigah.
Fatima Surayya Bajiya was honored with many national and international awards. She was awarded the Pride of Performance award in 1996 along with prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz award in 2012.
