SIALKOT: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday said Pakistan’s commitment to abide by the ceasefire agreement of 2003 should never be misconstrued as response limitation.

“Indian aggression or any misadventure shall always get a most befitting response,” he said while visiting the Line of Control and Working Boundary in Khuiratta / Ratta Arayan sectors.

Local commanders briefed the COAS on Indian ceasefire violations specifically targeting civil population across the LoC/ Working Boundary.

Bajwa especially hailed heroic determination of local population against Indian blatant aggression and directed for enhanced protective measures including construction of more community shell protection shelters for civil population.

He appreciated effective and a responsible response of own troops to Indian unethical targeting and high morale of troops and civilians.

Indian forces have breached the ceasefire on more than 150 occasions in January alone.

At least four people had embraced martyrdom and 20 others sustained injuries in unprovoked firing and shelling by the Indian Border Security Force in different sectors of the Working Boundary and LoC, according to Dr. Muhammad Faisal, spokesman for the Foreign Office.
