KARACHI: The Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) has suspended membership of Geo TV and issued show-cause notice to the beleaguered media group, ARY News reported Friday.
The decision in this regard was taken in an emergency meeting of the PBA held today. The PBA took notice of Defence Minister Khwaja Asif’s statement wherein he had accused Geo of being traitor.
It said the Geo violated PBA rules and regulations, said a meeting.
A Geo representative was also present in the PBA meeting. Majority of the PBA members agreed to issue show-cause notice to Geo group.
Earlier, Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had suspended license of Geo TV for 15 days on June 6 for violating its code of conduct. PEMRA had also ordered the news channel to pay a fine of Rs. 10 million.
Geo News had blamed Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Zaheer-ul-Islam for the attack on news anchor Hamid Mir. The allegations had caused wide-spread protests in the country in favor of the Pakistan Army and ISI.
