Disqualification petitions filed against two PTI lawmakers

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a disqualification petition against two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legislators in the National Assembly, Kanwal Shozab and Malaika Bukhari, in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The disqualification petitions were filed by PML-N’s Shaista Pervaiz who filed a plea for disqualification against PTI’s Kanwal Shauzab while the second petition was registered by N-League’s Tahira Bukhari against Maleeka Bokhari, who is a Member of National Assembly.

NA Secretariat was made party in the petitions.

It was stated that Ms Shauzab and Ms Bokhari’s membership should be suspended till verdict in the case.

The petitions stated that Malaika Bukhari should be declared ineligible for possessing dual-nationality, whereas, Kanwal Shozab’s should be adjudged disqualified for provision of wrong information to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) under Article 62(1)(f).

On March 27, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had held the hearing of disqualification petition filed against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Member of National Assembly (MNA), Noorul Hassan Tanvir.

The hearing was conducted by IHC’s Justice Amir Farooq where the lawmaker appeared along with his lawyer Mian Faisal.

The prosecutor pleaded the high court to declare disqualification of the legislator under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution over alleged possession of Iqama (work permit).

Defence lawyer apprised that Tanvir had filed a miscellaneous application against the writ and their stance should be heard in next hearing.

Tanvir said that his opponent faced failures in past as well. He claimed that the petitioner had filed a disqualification petition against him by using the name of his driver.

Later, the court adjourned hearing till April 24.
