PM’s appearance before JIT, matter of shame rather applause: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in a tweet on Saturday said that appearance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on ‘criminal’ charges was not a matter of applause rather than a shame, ARY News reported.

On June 15, many of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers declared the primer’s turning up before the Panamagate JIT as a historic day by upholding the rule of law. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter said that the premier had made a history by setting a much required and welcome precedent for others to emulate.

However, the PTI chief in his tweet said that it is outrageous to compare Sharifs – allegedly involved in asset concealing, money laundering, and tax evading – to Hazrat Umar (RA), a paragon of honesty and virtue [in response of remarks made by PML-N workers].

Last day, Khan had levelled allegations on Nawaz Sharif of making dangerous insinuations in his speech on Thursday outside the Federal Judicial Academy by making a claim that a conspiracy has been hatched against him either by the judiciary or military for repeatedly being subjected to accountability.

Khan was addressing a presser at his residence yesterday when he reiterated his demand that Sharif should resign from his post.

Khan said that the JIT should not feel threatened by threats being hurled at them by the ruling party as the entire nation upholds the accountability.

“This nation is in debt because of the ongoing corruption and money laundering,” he asserted and described the letters said to be sent by a Qatari prince as a fraud.

He said that the Sharif family did not have any other way to prove the money trail and the purchase of offshore properties.

He alleged that some members and leaders of the ruling party were hinting at not accepting the judiciary’s verdict in the Panama Papers case. “We will make you accept the JIT’s decision. If your supporters take to the streets they will be facing a sea of people supporting the judiciary,” he remarked.
