KARACHI: While speaking to the participants in the 26th course of National Institute of Management (NIM), Quetta, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said, “Provinces have created a state within a state after 18th Amendment.”
He made these remarks during his speech and recorded his complaint further saying, “We have mandate of Karachi, but we are unable to do what we want to do for the people due to shortage of funds”.
The funds under the Karachi Package would be released soon to the city, the Mayor expressed his hopes. “We need to focus on resolving the chronic issues of the city. Everything is possible if we have the resources and powers,” he added.
The Mayor said that the metropolis had been miserably ignored in the past and the problems piled, becoming more complex with every passing year.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) aims at creating awareness among the public regarding cleanliness and other civic issues, he committed.
Talking about the menace of drugs, Waseem Akhtar said that the use of drugs and narcotics was spreading fast in the city including schoolchildren of posh areas.
The mayor said that drugs and arms were being smuggled into the city from two borders without any control. “Is drug mafia that influential that no action can be taken against them?” he asked.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman and other senior KMC officers were also present on the occasion.
