ISLAMABAD: PTI has challenged imposition of Article 245 in federal capital Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the Supreme Court, ARY News reported on Monday.
PTI leader Umar Ayub has petitioned the apex court through Barrister Gohar on behalf of the PTI challenging the government’s calling Army troops under Article 245.
It pleaded that the petitioner is a political party, and a political party has constitutional right of peaceful protest.
It has been argued in the petition that Article 245 could not be invoked for political objectives.
The court has been pleaded to declare the enforcement of Article 245 as void.
Federal Interior Ministry approved army deployment in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and later in Balochistan to address the deteriorating law and order situation following arrest of Imran Khan.
After arrest of the PTI chairman, violent protests broke out across the country and provincial governments sought from the interior ministry deployment of armed forces. Federal government authorized the deployment of army troops for maintaining the law-and-order situation in aid to civil authority under Article 245 of the Constitution.
