KARACHI: Sindh Rangers arrested 2, 847 alleged criminals in 1, 992 operations conducted since January 01, 2016, in Karachi, ARY News reported.
“The alleged criminals included 446 target killers – 348 of political parties, 11 of sectarian parties and 87 of Lyari Gang War/ Peoples Aman Committee — , 350 terrorists belonging to different banned outfits, 72 extortionists and 26 kidnappers for ransom,” the performance report 2016 of Rangers on Karachi Operation revealed.
According to the report, 13 abductees were got released from kidnappers during the following year, while five soldiers got injured in crossfire with terrorists.

On recovery of weapons and ammunition, the report said 1, 845 weapons and 194, 579 ammunition were recovered including 10 rocket launchers, 50 heavy/ light machine guns, 358 Kalashnikovs/ sub-machine guns, 90 shot guns, 112 repeaters, 315 rifles and 910 pistols/ revolvers. While, 166 grenades/ crackers, one improvised explosive device and 12 kilograms explosive material were also recovered.
The other recoveries include, 26 walkie-talkies, 190 bullet proof jackets, 36 detonators and 18 RPG-7 rockers.

The Rangers performance report also claimed that the law and order situation had significantly improved in the megapolis since inception of the Karachi Operation in 2013. Terrorist incidents reduced by 72 percent, target killings thinned by 91 percent, the cases of extortions slumped by 93 percent and the cases of kidnapping sharply declined by 86 percent.
On the other hand, during his visit to the metropolis, Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Muhammad Saeed on Thursday directed the para-military force to make the ongoing Karachi operation more effective and result-oriented.
