Akhtar, who is also a frontrunner for the slot of Karachi mayor, had accused the paramilitary force of snatching hides of sacrificial animals during Eid days.
In a petition, Rangers counsel said the MQM leader had leveled false accusations on the paramilitary force. On behalf of Rangers, he filed Rs 500 defamation suit against Waseem Akhtar.
He said the MQM leader must prove his allegations or pay the damages amount.
The court admitted the plea for hearing, served notice on Akhtar and summoned him on December 28.
