BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Schools Education Department on Wednesday launched a program titled Punjab School Transport Programme to distribute bicycles and transport cards among students, ARY News reported.
As a part of the program, Punjab Schools Education Minister Murad Raas personally handed over bicycles among 16 male and five female students whereas free transport cards were also given to 10 female students during a ceremony was held at a school in Bahawalpur.
A total of 707 male and female students were given bicycles and 593 students were issued rickshaw and van transport cards by the minister.
Addressing the function, Murad Raas said that, under the program, 1800 studens of 62 schools of Bahawalpur will get bicycle and transport cards, adding that scope of this programme will be extended to other districts of the province as well.
The minister said that the provincial government is focused on improving quality of education in 52, 000 public sector schools.
He said that quality education is the right of every child and added that double shift programme will also be started in schools for this purpose.
The minister urged parents, teachers and members of civil society to play their active role for improvement in education system.
Group Head DFID in Pakistan Ms. Ruth Lawson, Team Leader Ms. Helen Kamal and education experts attended the function.
