KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday approved formation of model courts across Sindh, ARY News reported.
The SHC registrar has issued a notification for setting up model courts in the province. An additional sessions’ judge will be the head of each model in each district.
According to the notification, model courts will decide every case it deals within a period of three months.
In the first phase, old cases of murders, drug trafficking, will be transferred to the model court. While in the next phase, cases of family disputes, tenancy matters, and others will be moved to the newly-formed model courts.

Khan Khosa on March 11 had said under the ‘Expeditious Justice Initiative’, model courts would be established at district level throughout the country which would conduct the trials on day to day and continuous basis.The Supreme Court had elucidated that the courts would be set as per mandate under Article 37 (d) of the Constitution, which ensured the provision of expeditious justice.
During the meeting, the CJP said no adjournments would be granted by the model courts and a trial schedule would be issued for observance of lawyers and prosecutors, who would also give details of their juniors/replacements so that the trial may be concluded within the time frame.
The attendance of witnesses would be ensured through special process.
