Railways minister announces compensation for victims of train engine fire incident

RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday announced compensation money for the victims of Karachi train engine fire incident, ARY News reported.

He announced to give Rs1 million financial aid to the assistant driver who lost his life and Rs0.5 million for the injured deputy driver.

Sheikh Rasheed expressed deep grief over the death of Rashid Rehman.

He directed the relevant authorities to provide every possible medical facility to the injured driver. He also directed the authorities to take care of the family of the victims.

One Pakistan Railways employee was killed and another received serious burn injuries on Sunday after an engine of train caught fire at the City Station in Karachi.

According to details, an assistant driver, Rashid Rehman, and a deputy driver, Naeem, had received injuries.

Both the injured were admitted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Hospital’s Burns Ward in critical condition, where Rashid Rehman had succumbed to his injuries.

Doctors said Rashid received 100 percent burn injuries, while Naeem received 17 percent burn injuries in the accident.

Police said the train engine caught fire because of short-circuit in wires.

Sources said two on-lookers also received minor injuries.
