Six killed, five injured in Karachi road accident

KARACHI: At least six people, a woman and two children among them, died and five others sustained critical injuries in a road accident when a pickup crashed into a truck in the city’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area on Tuesday morning.

Rescue sources said the accident took place near Link road in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area. Three people died on the spot while others received life-threatening injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital, they added.

Three others later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, increasing the death toll to six, the rescue officials said, adding that the identities of the victims of the accident are yet to be ascertained.

They said the local police reached the spot immediately after the accident and were determining the cause of the accident.

Pakistan has one of the most dangerous road infrastructures in the region despite the government claims of efforts to improve the roads and communication infrastructure in the country.

Thousands of people die and sustain major injuries every year in Pakistan due to dilapidated roads, creaking infrastructure and reckless driving in the country.

Lack of proper enforcement of road rules, dangerous driver violations, lesser awareness of driving laws and safety measures also add to the soaring number of dangerous traffic mishaps.
