General Sahir Shamshad Mirza

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has nominated Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza for the post of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army. Mirza was commissioned in the 8th Battalion of the Sind Regiment as second lieutenant in 1985.
The recipient of Hilala-e-Imtiaz (Military) has served in senior leadership positions in his career, including director-general military operations (DGMO), Chief of General Staff, and Adjutant General at the General Headquarters.
As DGMO, he was a member of former chief of army staff General Raheel Sharif’s core team at the General Headquarters (GHQ), which directed the military campaign against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorists in North Waziristan.
He has also participated in operations directed by the United Nations in other nations and was awarded the United Nations Medal for Service in Sierra Leone for his work in that country (UNOMSIL Medal).
Lt Gen Mirza was also a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Reforms Committee.
He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in 2019 and is currently serving as a commander for Rawalpindi Corps.
