Jail typical known as The Clink these are much small facilities that hold smaller number of inmates than prison. They are run by the local governments and supervised by the county police department. The population is mostly made up of people who have been recently arrested for the minor offenses or a misdemeanor and their sentences are far smaller than the prison.

Yet jails are different from the temporary lockup that at built inside the police station and hold individuals who can’t post bail, those arrested for publicly informal activities or individual waiting to be processed into a jail.

Jails can also serve the whole prisoners that are waiting trail, or the prisoner during a very long and extended trail. While they typically only hold individual guilty of misdemeanors if the senses for several misdemeanors are not being served currently than an individual could be held for far longer than the typical period of less than a year
