Wasim Akhtar born in November 25, 1955 is a Pakistani politician of the Muttahida Quami Movement (P), Akhtar belongs to an Urdu-speaking Muslim Rajput family. He is the son of Akhter Muhammad Khan. He runs a real estate business. He is married and has six children.
After his early academic education he finished his degree program in Telecommunication Engineering. He joined the MQM party in 1988, four years after its founding. He is also facing charges as the main culprit in 12 May 2007 riots in which more than 50 citizens were killed.
After got success in 1993 general elections Waseem Akhtar Got his first seat in Provincial Assembly of Sindh. Later Akhtar again got ticket from MQM for Provencal Assembly of Sindh and he got succeed again after his victory Waseem Akhtar was awarded with the ministry of Housing and Town Planing.
During the military rule of Musharraf Waseem Akhtar became the strong candidate and a senior politician to get defeated stood up for Provincial Assembly seat in 2003 and after his historical success he was opinionated as the adviser to the chief minister of Sindh for local government department. Later in 2004 he was also appointed Advisor of Chief Minister of Sindh for Home Department.
Waseem Akhtar got his first National Assembly Seat after getting victory in 2008 elections. Today he is currently working as the Administrator of Karachi and deputy Convener of MQM-P.
