Two sectarian killers executed in Karachi

Muhammad Azam alias Sharif and Attaullah alias Qasim were hanged to death on the charge of killing Dr Ali Raza Pirani in 2001 on sectarian grounds.

An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) issued the death warrants of both the terrorist on January 24,2015.

Ataullah and Azam belonged to a banned outfit and were executed after the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain rejected their mercy pleas.

These were the first executions in the province since the deadly Shikarpur Imambargah attack

which killed more than 60 people on Friday January 30, 2015. A stark reminder of the menace of deep rooted extremism in the country and province.

It must be noted that twenty death row convicts have been hanged since Pakistan’s federal government lifted the moratorium on capital punishment in the wake of the Peshawar school attack.
