JAMSHORO: Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda has ordered deployment of police force at water distribution canal in Jamshoro to prevent water theft.

During his visit to the city today, Vawda said water worth billions of rupees was being theft daily with no authority in sight to contain such massive pilfering.

He directed the officials concerned to deploy security along the distribution canal, and warned of strict action against non-compliance of his orders.

He regretted that the former governments didn’t pay any heed to water theft and steps to preserve such precious resource. The minister said government officials just filled their own pockets and never thought about serving the masses.

He went on to say that mayor [Karachi] was making pleas but nobody was listening.

Faisal Vawda said he would show results and stop theft of water. “I’ve assumed charge of the ministry for just four days… outcome of all the measures will be visible soon,” he added.

He insisted that Sindh would continue getting its due share of water and there won’t be any such reduction in it.

“I won’t let anyone indulge in any misappropriation or corruption until I am in the province,” warned the water minister.

To a question, he said some people were trying to remove deputy commissioner Malir who was actually an honest man.
